Other than my grandparents, who I was fortunate to get to know while I was growing up, I didn't really know much beyond them.</p><p></p><p>My first taste of genealogy was in 1992 when a family reunion was held in Nelson to gather the descendants of two settlers who arrived in Nelson in 1842. They had come from rural in England. From that, I learned that one of my classmates was my fifth cousin, once removed. A book was published, which included the history of the family, and all the family trees. It included a copy of the original, handwritten memoirs of <a href="https://teara.govt.nz/en/biographies/1h18/higgins-sarah">Sarah Higgins</a>, my great, great, great grandmother. This was notable, as she wrote it in her 80s, after only learning how to write in her 70s.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgjNKEfCMiQpQXMLGHB5To7PjJL8E52OXZW-mq9SONRvSAab_CpxfrihW70XDLaMhQZa_5bAZmeLgdmayQ7oUUc4M7Hk64qEl48LBG_rz4mdgT29YNat6TNCzOQmHgPu2x3meieMKMOx0280Cs3hsCEcZ0v750iGLvPsAEPaXuB2OYZu-UnCAjzEpVIcw=s1200" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="907" data-original-width="1200" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgjNKEfCMiQpQXMLGHB5To7PjJL8E52OXZW-mq9SONRvSAab_CpxfrihW70XDLaMhQZa_5bAZmeLgdmayQ7oUUc4M7Hk64qEl48LBG_rz4mdgT29YNat6TNCzOQmHgPu2x3meieMKMOx0280Cs3hsCEcZ0v750iGLvPsAEPaXuB2OYZu-UnCAjzEpVIcw=w640-h484" width="640" /></a></div><p>As my parents and grandparents were farmers, and with this knowledge of earlier ancestors who were also farmers, I thought that was my heritage, as that was all I knew. This didn't really fit with my desire to move to the city, and get an office job.</p><p>After that, I didn't learn much more about my family history until I'd moved to the city (Christchurch), studied graphic design and worked a couple of jobs. I then moved to London, where I met a second-cousin, who informed me that some of our ancestors had lived in London before they emigrated to New Zealand in the 1860s, and had owned a book-binding business there. I found this quite fascinating, as at this time I'd just started a job as a graphic designer for a publishing company in their puzzle magazine department.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhbcNklc1t8PCBDRzzcxNLAMDxfSx7njI4ncekgKqw6cI4swFIeL_hq35pFdUwXBAKEhUGV9RethxZuqN1f3aFBpJ2SFioIWV12WbX5YeRorsxbgEpEux3X8NWDIZLOrS0SDXBow-HsPtlWxUKvaY224LsRREonI5gWGWJlxPW48Idu2G74luc-xtcvaw=s1200" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="773" data-original-width="1200" height="412" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhbcNklc1t8PCBDRzzcxNLAMDxfSx7njI4ncekgKqw6cI4swFIeL_hq35pFdUwXBAKEhUGV9RethxZuqN1f3aFBpJ2SFioIWV12WbX5YeRorsxbgEpEux3X8NWDIZLOrS0SDXBow-HsPtlWxUKvaY224LsRREonI5gWGWJlxPW48Idu2G74luc-xtcvaw=w640-h412" width="640" /></a></div><p>Upon my return to Christchurch a year later, I did some more research. I then discovered that half of my ancestors (all on my father's side) had actually arrived in Lyttelton in the 1800s, something I hadn't realised when I first moved here.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Growing up, I was interested in creative pursuits, like handcrafts which my mother taught me, along with drawing and painting, something both of my grandmothers did, and which they both encouraged me to do. Both of my grandmothers have passed away in the time since I left home, and while I was at my parents over the holiday break, I had a look through the trunk which stored Grandma's artwork.</p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhHnLQGd6y_HNm9gsnLtlRI0Q9jUq8RCN64QGsASrkTTIgO4PYghCVot4ur0TGJy_15TcgM3wpD6RteQq8yMBKzRShgfmjhdb1MXurl-ydQ4dRR5HyUkSqP8r6X4Yc7poaEiqEPXgzDEN3M4ICZF63odLJLhL8Es4hm9fkRWddn2pXMtMvRJ3mGMEV4NQ=s1200" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1075" data-original-width="1200" height="574" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhHnLQGd6y_HNm9gsnLtlRI0Q9jUq8RCN64QGsASrkTTIgO4PYghCVot4ur0TGJy_15TcgM3wpD6RteQq8yMBKzRShgfmjhdb1MXurl-ydQ4dRR5HyUkSqP8r6X4Yc7poaEiqEPXgzDEN3M4ICZF63odLJLhL8Es4hm9fkRWddn2pXMtMvRJ3mGMEV4NQ=w640-h574" width="640" /></a></div><p>I had looked through these before, but enough time had passed since then, that I felt like I was looking at them through fresh eyes. I had just purchased a book about painting watercolour landscapes, and I had wanted to look at her pictures and see how she had painted trees. There were lots of landscapes as I was expecting, but there was a wide variety of other work which I hadn't remembered from the last time.</p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEisedHB43O2ogjn00gVgIV9Qs2dTNnyuniidu2n09qIvgXyRFyB2-_qcVbg9-l6-4biy9rdWHmb3gxDcrR52OJUvDhPKmS1WpDsw3QOgkMsfwFHbinbimWNJ7dVj1h1KK8PemKVF-sPTgSw15WDuswyzyLzjMlF0ScCtFMHpdXHeQ97wElr3KXAB9HLhw=s1200" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="819" data-original-width="1200" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEisedHB43O2ogjn00gVgIV9Qs2dTNnyuniidu2n09qIvgXyRFyB2-_qcVbg9-l6-4biy9rdWHmb3gxDcrR52OJUvDhPKmS1WpDsw3QOgkMsfwFHbinbimWNJ7dVj1h1KK8PemKVF-sPTgSw15WDuswyzyLzjMlF0ScCtFMHpdXHeQ97wElr3KXAB9HLhw=w640-h436" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>This included many different bird paintings, lots of flowers, and even some portraits. There were a couple of my Grandpa, and one which I think might have been a self-portrait. Amongst all the other things, there were hand-lettering projects, and a mock-up of a logo for the local WDFF group that she was a member of. The best bit though, was a painting of a pot plant. I was thinking how it was quite on trend, then Mum looked at it, and she told me that Grandma had painted that design on the cupboard doors of a friend's home. So it turns out my Grandma was making wall art before I was even born!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgulNIbe7xN4AMjdPUy61ja8zZFuYIV0HdQ6zb3lrfQPs5GZUjgdgSyGevHcASjeBqf0cD-SppPQnlAaABqzQ6iYWEY_PGeqSUDKpctw-cWjDqrIQGOrOI0WooanOERyYetdmCqIPGGP-tnKWtOnWVTOh4xFEgXCL4_2JtTFu7jR5TBqUC46H5zpnKlIQ=s1760" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1760" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgulNIbe7xN4AMjdPUy61ja8zZFuYIV0HdQ6zb3lrfQPs5GZUjgdgSyGevHcASjeBqf0cD-SppPQnlAaABqzQ6iYWEY_PGeqSUDKpctw-cWjDqrIQGOrOI0WooanOERyYetdmCqIPGGP-tnKWtOnWVTOh4xFEgXCL4_2JtTFu7jR5TBqUC46H5zpnKlIQ=w436-h640" width="436" /></a></div><br /><p>This got me thinking of how she loved to encourage my drawing as a child, and the very different era she grew up in. She was born before WWI, and got married the year WWII broke out. She brought up her children in the 1940s and 50s, and diligently played her part as a wife and mother. For her, painting was only ever a hobby. To have created art as a career is something she could only ever have dreamed of. When she was in her 80s, her grand-daughter moved to the big city and embarked on as career as a graphic designer. She passed away two days after my graduation ceremony, which my parents had travelled down for. At the time, I felt like that meant something, that she wanted to know I had graduated, and was on the road to following my dream. Now, after seeing all her work again, I really feel that even more.</p><p>Grandma also wrote a memoir, so I think it's time for a re-read.</p><p><i>Credit: All photos are of original artwork by W. E. It caused me to reflect on earlier times, which had a similar theme for me. Ten years earlier, (well 11 now, it's been a year!) in 2010 I went through several changes, so that period in time became my reference point.</span><br /></p><div><p style="text-align: left;"><br /></p><div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC7csUwo7XAgDOHG7NWsstRU9YjYm40FfLkoiSS6VvH3tQPlc90gEEsMKOTeLCxZAOFsqohyryaiLPhgmR_DL6h0RFL23M7uvNFoplJhcNeVS9N8KS94J_Ol_LPUcRffG1v2wpx10DfjbZ/s425/anzac+biccies.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="319" data-original-width="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC7csUwo7XAgDOHG7NWsstRU9YjYm40FfLkoiSS6VvH3tQPlc90gEEsMKOTeLCxZAOFsqohyryaiLPhgmR_DL6h0RFL23M7uvNFoplJhcNeVS9N8KS94J_Ol_LPUcRffG1v2wpx10DfjbZ/s16000/anzac+biccies.jpg" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>At the beginning of February 2010 I was <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2010/02/last-supper.html" target="_blank">diagnosed with Coeliac Disease</a>. This itself was quite a big change. It was good in that it explained and resolved a lot of the health issues I'd been experiencing, but having to drastically change your diet for the rest of your life is quite a big step! Over time I got used to it, and now it is perfectly normal to me.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><p style="text-align: left;">Little did I know, that was just the beginning! Two weeks later I was made redundant. This was a little more unexpected. The company I had worked for had faced issues, but I thought we'd moved on from that. It turns out I was quite wrong, and all of a sudden I'd lost my income. Right at the tail-end of a global recession. So that was also a little stressful! After having some time to take it all in, and realising there was a lot of competition for the jobs I was qualified for, I decided it might be a good time to take a <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2010/03/taking-plunge.html" target="_blank">leap of faith into the world of self-employment</a>.</p></div><div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcHrK3Rtg8ki8sIlTKUTNqQrU9ov58GF1UP10BRI_HfluSpVAlABqYnAzvxOOUWrSU3o7IECURNYVd9cu24Aa2h0udJscf7ZeEIQ8uY6VPRiwCK59W2NtBtopbSacJ6LVt000v4ulWWuMQ/s519/crack-in-retreat-road.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="519" data-original-width="389" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcHrK3Rtg8ki8sIlTKUTNqQrU9ov58GF1UP10BRI_HfluSpVAlABqYnAzvxOOUWrSU3o7IECURNYVd9cu24Aa2h0udJscf7ZeEIQ8uY6VPRiwCK59W2NtBtopbSacJ6LVt000v4ulWWuMQ/s16000/crack-in-retreat-road.jpg" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>Around six months after I made this decision, we had a <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2010/09/my-eventful-year-of-2010-continues-with.html" target="_blank">major earthquake</a>, which shook up the city and us. Obviously this wasn't great for local business confidence, and not the best time to have a fledgling new business. By the end of that year, I thought I'd had the 'three bad things'. The <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2010/12/2010-what-ride.html" target="_blank">next year had got to be better</a>, right? </p><p>Wrong! The following year saw a much more <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2011/03/shaken-to-core.html" target="_blank">devastating earthquake</a>, in which 185 people lost their lives. By now, change was starting to be become the norm, and the term 'new normal' was starting to enter the lexicon.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs5l_T7dSmaobfGjqsT_mUUc8sAQWDibnKS5ychhWQR2nzqY3zBxnHJaD0nE0NMkNgTrSb9n9Psc9FskSAfTIo-GT3FYOF_HT9_GfPo5D1K3RGCALLPSgHNGIMXnpVo3fl2gedBbUujp-P/s800/Marigolds.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs5l_T7dSmaobfGjqsT_mUUc8sAQWDibnKS5ychhWQR2nzqY3zBxnHJaD0nE0NMkNgTrSb9n9Psc9FskSAfTIo-GT3FYOF_HT9_GfPo5D1K3RGCALLPSgHNGIMXnpVo3fl2gedBbUujp-P/w640-h480/Marigolds.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p><br /></p><p>As the pandemic progressed last year, I considered myself fortunate. The part-time job I had looked pretty safe. My husband's job in the construction industry did too, and the people of New Zealand were doing a great job of supporting local, so my business was looking good. I kept thinking to myself, 'this is bad, but not as bad as 2010, I haven't lost my job'. So I'm sure you can guess what happened next...</p><p><br /></p><p>In October, I was told the organisation I was working for was restructuring, and by December, my position had been made redundant. On the upside, things were a little different this time. It was a part-time income, not a full-time one, and the newer aspect of business, which I had purchased in the years we spend in the 'new normal' is a lot more established. I had the benefit of my new studio, so I have a dedicated space to work in. Again, I will make the most of the extra time I have for my business, by continuing to grow it.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxnnfLT_j0Hi2WxZRzeWZc-W-13ssde1_jcaIS6S4F9xNpCrWjYqWdmMVXvfthaDe24YMHW1e4WdZegsSXA9jQGKh-WcaOga0mZJPUuNS8YATT8U1K7sgmFGfyQY0W58ZLsUxrXB67ytYW/s2048/new-studio-assistant.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxnnfLT_j0Hi2WxZRzeWZc-W-13ssde1_jcaIS6S4F9xNpCrWjYqWdmMVXvfthaDe24YMHW1e4WdZegsSXA9jQGKh-WcaOga0mZJPUuNS8YATT8U1K7sgmFGfyQY0W58ZLsUxrXB67ytYW/w640-h640/new-studio-assistant.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p>I have learned a few things from running a business for this length of time. One of those is where my limitations are. Like a lot of creatives, planning and time management are not my forte, but are important skills to have in order to grow a business. So this year I am working with a coach to hone my skills in this area. As I go through this process, I've realised that I was even worse than I thought, so I have some work to do. Wish me luck (or is it my coach who needs the luck?)<p></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin6B_4QRwz4kFZkEs-5OsfNoWiuEGogg8x1nHU-jGNCu_02QfkQxzRSW9p2CMP8QaFSWBsLalYGSvKmWivllPGG7n36CqIJ2k6mqvfIg_kT4Jjz68uAhtxv-s0wyQWoynFj38jBhDo9GZM/s1260/kiwi.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="945" data-original-width="1260" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin6B_4QRwz4kFZkEs-5OsfNoWiuEGogg8x1nHU-jGNCu_02QfkQxzRSW9p2CMP8QaFSWBsLalYGSvKmWivllPGG7n36CqIJ2k6mqvfIg_kT4Jjz68uAhtxv-s0wyQWoynFj38jBhDo9GZM/w640-h480/kiwi.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>I have also learned that normal doesn't really exist. The last year gave me a new understanding of what resilience means. It is the art of realising that 'this too shall pass'. That if things seem bad right now, they will improve, and you will come out the other side. You just have to put one foot after the other and keep going. It's not always easy, and sometimes you need to take a break. If you just focus on the next step, you will get there in the end.</p><p>With the extra time I now have, I am planning to produce more new designs this year, starting with expanding my range of watercolour birds. Maybe I'll even launch a <a href="https://blog.stickytiki.nz/2019/05/coming-soon-stickytiki-removable.html" target="_blank">new product</a> I've been teasing you about for way too long. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. It's one step at a time into our new 'new normal', and you never know what is around the corner.</p></div></div></div>Rosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05266722417757669826noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276435725404178168.post-11673836322605968292020-08-24T18:11:00.000+12:002020-08-24T18:11:04.934+12:00IMPORTANT: Faulty product notice<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5nm4GZhv4bk7sURzh0gi0uuISqy08B49N-7yRsKifZvqhRVBC3XWhDWVfpXdk6SUJnTuMwyoeu1lJSykbCdJRNn8enlKbWJCd3fu3DseRqt75yO5j5vefsblyWTu1KvebnU6VqEZXYb0c/s1260/MED_Paua-New-Zealand_fern_cropped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="945" data-original-width="1260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5nm4GZhv4bk7sURzh0gi0uuISqy08B49N-7yRsKifZvqhRVBC3XWhDWVfpXdk6SUJnTuMwyoeu1lJSykbCdJRNn8enlKbWJCd3fu3DseRqt75yO5j5vefsblyWTu1KvebnU6VqEZXYb0c/s640/MED_Paua-New-Zealand_fern_cropped.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p>It has recently come to my attention that a mistake was made last year, and my supplier sent me a roll of material with a stronger adhesive than the material I use to make decals with. The following method is simple, and reasonably effective, but please be careful as it may reduce the adhesive too much, and render them either useless, or not very reusable.</p><p><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">You will need: </h3><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>One clean tea towel with a flat weave</li><li>A flat, hard surface such as a kitchen bench</li></ul><div><br /></div><p></p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Lay the tea towel out flat on the hard, flat surface</li><li>Apply the decal firmly to the tea towel, and then peel it off</li><li>Test level of stickiness</li><li>Repeat until the adhesive has reduced to the desired level </li></ol><p></p><p><br /></p><p>I recommend testing each time to make sure you haven’t gone too far, as there is no going back once this has happened. (I have reached 10 times in testing and it still sticks fine.)</p><p><br /></p><p>If you have any questions or concerns about this please don’t hesitate to <a href="mailto:hello@stickytiki.nz" rel="nofollow">get in touch</a>. </p>Rosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05266722417757669826noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276435725404178168.post-55526597360327220362020-02-17T14:39:00.000+13:002020-02-17T14:47:12.029+13:00How to apply and remove decals on your car<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sometimes it's nice to stand out from the crowd. Car stickers are a great way to do this. You can inject some personality into your ride, and make it easier to spot your car in the carpark! Our reusable decals have a UV coating which makes them durable enough to put on your car. They can withstand the sun, rain, and some gentle cleaning.<br />
<br />
You do need to take a little more care of them to ensure they last a long time and keep looking good. Follow these steps to get the most out of your reusable decals:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/we-are-one-wall-decal-tiny-fundraising-for-christc" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJMTzEXcz5LWnaHnh1Kyw_wYLJBdxJt9ZzZvzFZCMPEYCk64PN1WaUgHryevYeeTr_L8N-kbDl77MKpTjyfshKkFE28cWl5G8yawTFsA479NvzqCN8nS1WzwbJlQiYwcrvwY_bpC86sUIq/s640/car-sticker_new-car2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2>
How to apply car stickers</h2>
1) To begin with, throughly clean the surface on the car where you are going to apply your car stickers. Depending on how much time you have, and how thorough you like to be, you could wash your whole car!<br />
<br />
2) Once it is clean, use a soft, lint free cloth to dry the area and remove any residual dirt that may have been lingering.<br />
<br />
3) Carefully apply the car sticker to the surface of the car. You can remove and reapply if necessary to make sure your arrangement works. Make sure to stick with the paintwork and don't stick to windows, as you don't want to lose any visibility, or fall foul of any laws.<br />
<br />
4) Pro tip: Firmly press down all of the edges of the car stickers to make sure no dust can sneak in.<br />
<br />
Stand back and admire your work!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/stronger-together-decal-tiny-fundraising-for-chris" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxPIuVFRh7OKRqg2JlOef9zSMUarfqJBlko9mLh5YrDI60I1a-f5P3_SyZWzWEXli7lwIZcmKdD_Z2Y6UoVPhIcbyjV4b5SvF5H3jjHIKrzwTSjoGcFD8ZUWYyaPwmw8lh-VcSp4LfyyHf/s640/car-sticker_new-car1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If it's time for a change, or you upgrade your car, you can remove the car stickers and reapply them to your new car. To avoid transferring any dust or dirt, follow these steps to remove them from your car:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2>
How to remove and reapply car stickers</h2>
1) Carefully clean the car sticker and surrounding paintwork with a soft cloth and soapy water.<br />
<br />
2) Use a soft, lint free cloth to dry the decal and surrounding paintwork. Let it dry completely.<br />
<br />
3) Carefully peel off the car sticker.<br />
<br />
4) Follow the steps above on how to apply your car sticker, then stand back and admire your work!<br />
<br />
Here are some examples how much difference smoothing the edges makes. This set had been well smoothed down, and no dust had got under the edges. After removing the car stickers, you can just see a faint outline of the dirt with is easily washed away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl3APcYRYpZI8uAxxr3Ae9BAKs_SdOPkvPl16GwuepyJ0k9VpnzpGN-ARXBYrEIOl0A-TlUxz2TY9umA2WCja6E-_G_5n51Q_bYsEC0L3WgbEy09ItLKSNDaLnn4Rks0Tavo16JNBc2Dml/s1600/car-sticker_removed1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl3APcYRYpZI8uAxxr3Ae9BAKs_SdOPkvPl16GwuepyJ0k9VpnzpGN-ARXBYrEIOl0A-TlUxz2TY9umA2WCja6E-_G_5n51Q_bYsEC0L3WgbEy09ItLKSNDaLnn4Rks0Tavo16JNBc2Dml/s640/car-sticker_removed1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you're a bit less careful, like I was with the second set of car stickers, you can see that in the areas where the edges weren't firmly stuck down, the dirt has settled in there. This will stay stuck on the back of the decals. Although this will wash off the car totally fine, it won't wash off the sticker. These were still fine to re-apply to the new car, but probably won't last as many years.</div>

<br />
This week is <a href="https://www.tewikiotereomaori.co.nz/" target="_blank">Te Wiki o te Reo Māori</a> – Maori language week. Like a lot of people my age, I learned the basics of maori language at school. Some of what I learned has stuck with me, including what I consider to be the most important part, <a href="https://www.victoria.ac.nz/maori-at-victoria/ako/te-reo-at-victoria/te-reo-pronunciation-guide" target="_blank">how to pronounce the vowels</a>. This means when I come across an unfamiliar word I can have a go at pronouncing it correctly. It also means I can make an effort at pronouncing common words correctly.<br />
<br />
Sometimes it can feel awkward pronouncing words you've always said one way a different way. If we all make an effort at pronouncing maori words correctly, then it will eventually become the norm. The theme this year is 'Kia Kaha te Reo Māori' or 'let's make the maori language strong'.<br />
<br />
If you'd like to extend your vocabulary, or learn the meaning of words you're not quite sure about, then check out this list of <a href="https://nzhistory.govt.nz/culture/maori-language-week/100-maori-words" target="_blank">100 Māori words every New Zealander should know</a>. <h2>
2. Stars</h2>
<div>
Start with the larger wall decal dots on the outside or the inside, depending on your preference. If you're wanting the easiest option, start with the dots on the inside, then fill in the gaps with the smaller dots. Keep it monotone with the <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/jungle-green-dots-wall-decal" target="_blank">jungle green dots</a>, or mix it up with <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/turkish-delight-dots" target="_blank">turkish delight dots</a>.</div>

3. Bubbles</h2>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Circle wall decals lend themselves well to bubble patterns. Keep them uniform with individual bubble patterns or group them together for a large bubble pattern. Seen here in <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/dusky-pink-dots-wall-decal" target="_blank">dusky pink medium dots</a>.</div>

<h2>
4. Circles</h2>
Another option is to keep the circle theme going and use your circle wall decals to make a larger circle, or even a spiral pattern.<br />

<h2>
5. Arrow or triangle</h2>
<div>
Is it an arrow, or is it a triangle? You decide! Mix up your geometric shapes and make a directional arrow or a triangle with your circle wall decal dots. Create this look with our <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/mustard-yellow-dots-wall-decal" target="_blank">mustard yellow wall mural dots</a>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2>
6. Abstract</h2>
<div>
Let you imagination take over and go for an abstract design. Here we've got a wavy line and a tree, which works well with the <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/jungle-green-dots-wall-decal" target="_blank">jungle green wall mural dots</a>.</div>

<br />
<h2>
7. Create a scene</h2>
Use something you've already got, like this cute wooden train from Woodn't they love it, and add a feature to complete the scene like this smoke billowing out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNE3_-r2pW8zjAYTTcxGMsaP8mm7qPhnOZj987Motr6IXP3jAz37R_EQbiWU1-4LoV2oXwtB-gm1E5_77uN222MRxt0c6cB-5NzGGhOsbwf21uIZ9by9t_VXbMtdUdgS44de4VSaj6XEeW/s1600/MD_Spearmint-dots_train.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="970" data-original-width="1260" height="492" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNE3_-r2pW8zjAYTTcxGMsaP8mm7qPhnOZj987Motr6IXP3jAz37R_EQbiWU1-4LoV2oXwtB-gm1E5_77uN222MRxt0c6cB-5NzGGhOsbwf21uIZ9by9t_VXbMtdUdgS44de4VSaj6XEeW/s640/MD_Spearmint-dots_train.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2>
8. Random spots</h2>
<div>
Last, but by no means least is the random placement of your circle wall decals. This is probably the easiest option, but I have found it's a lot harder to make them look random than I would have expected! Create this look with our <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/mustard-yellow-dots-wall-decal" target="_blank">mustard yellow medium dots</a>.</div>

<br />
After the mosque attacks in March, it became painfully clear how important it is to be inclusive. It made me think about how most of my acquaintances look similar to me. This is not on purpose, I must add! I have some great friends from completely different backgrounds to me. Which makes me think I should get out and meet more people from different walks of life, because there is a good chance there are some more great friends out there, just waiting to be met.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqdWYZ8q_ibsvjfKkAdTnvLWYQzW4JtHi4sSsmlbU9K9OJj-RB3IbU3hcbw_ROLX1gE9W2BtXAjhoxZKQVObbFhDfaOtL4T6yK3GdeeypVCVed2IRqJCKD5ZW5oQz-wh_5FBku1wzfo0Ie/s1600/TN_love_fern_cropped4-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqdWYZ8q_ibsvjfKkAdTnvLWYQzW4JtHi4sSsmlbU9K9OJj-RB3IbU3hcbw_ROLX1gE9W2BtXAjhoxZKQVObbFhDfaOtL4T6yK3GdeeypVCVed2IRqJCKD5ZW5oQz-wh_5FBku1wzfo0Ie/s640/TN_love_fern_cropped4-5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In the immediate aftermath I made a concerted effort to smile at people from minority groups, as I wanted them to feel welcome here in their own country. I also keep reminding myself that this extends to everyone. Someone might be from a different socioeconomic group to you, or dress or express themselves in a different way. Just because this isn't something you would do is not a reason to judge people. It's so easy to create a snap judgement in your mind, so I try to replace anything that sneaks in with 'Isn't it great that they are...' to reframe that judgement into something positive.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA37Eyoe1_-vXSH31P4cTNvUsgDyyWFlMNFoA2t6kRgPisDu6-wwzmAI4dOakRt-hN1UuMgFyREl2p4G5UnSq6OSZ7aod5q3PsuywAo-8yZkCBV3-6_pC-cGIo_KL7GRJfVo0IHusPGd-5/s1600/TN_Stronger-together_fern_cropped4-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA37Eyoe1_-vXSH31P4cTNvUsgDyyWFlMNFoA2t6kRgPisDu6-wwzmAI4dOakRt-hN1UuMgFyREl2p4G5UnSq6OSZ7aod5q3PsuywAo-8yZkCBV3-6_pC-cGIo_KL7GRJfVo0IHusPGd-5/s640/TN_Stronger-together_fern_cropped4-5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Unfortunately these kinds of attacks keep occurring, as there is a group of people who think everyone should be just like them, and doesn't want to celebrate diversity at all. I find it really sad how narrow-minded these people are. In order to counter that, and capture the sentiment that sprung up after the March attacks, I created a <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/fundraisers" target="_blank">series of decals</a> designed to promote inclusion and diversity. I also wanted to help out the Muslim community who were so devastatingly affected by the attack, so I am donating 50% of proceeds of the sales to the <a href="https://christchurchfoundation.org.nz/news/new-fund-established-to-support-families" target="_blank">The Christchurch Foundation's 'Our People, Our City' fund</a>. I included each of the phrases in arabic, maori and english to show unity.<br />

It's a bit like global warming. One person's actions are gong to change the world by themselves, but collectively we can make big changes. We just need lots of people doing lots of little things. I'd love to hear what you do to be more inclusive of others!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZdXIBB-EFh_B9zxAEMmzMUMHOUiziAISOfhf8YC_Yvv0-jerAyAdxJoBL1YEXn-veW-6Xcs7d3rbCPzLmglEofGc25vBjQ-qLLYu-KnIhwZlnkvQlpDPTewH82mNKv6bAro5QmF8QwFbX/s1600/IMG_1187.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZdXIBB-EFh_B9zxAEMmzMUMHOUiziAISOfhf8YC_Yvv0-jerAyAdxJoBL1YEXn-veW-6Xcs7d3rbCPzLmglEofGc25vBjQ-qLLYu-KnIhwZlnkvQlpDPTewH82mNKv6bAro5QmF8QwFbX/s640/IMG_1187.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's hard to pick a favourite piece of equipment. In the past I have featured my computer, as it's fairly integral to getting things done. But today I would like to feature my camera. Without it, I would just have products. You would need to be in store or at a market to see the decals. Even then you would have to imagine what they might look like on the wall. This would be easier for some than others – the dots are fairly self-explanatory – but what about the castle girls by Katherine Quinn? It is much easier to envisage what it will look like in your space if you can see a photograph of it assembled, than just by looking at the sheet with all the pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/castle-girls-wall-mural" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1262" data-original-width="1600" height="504" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghipjLpX_u-_z-RsUkuksDPVrt2sojX3iFvLoiQEMj3gSXRHAw5qvwzVxL58zoR51JlIE0OrY6CF72NgOA4xerKXRirK2wzIcYRluRkP4MKYGijjGbp09Z0-mmtc2eqG5ORZftx6prR8oT/s640/wallart_girlscastle_MOCKUP.png" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
Once you combine the camera and the power of the internet, then the real magic happens. You don't need to be in a shop or at a market to see our wall decals, you can view then anywhere in the world. Through our website you can view all our products, and through social media you can get a glimpse of what I've been up to behind the scenes, and you can check out what I'm up to at a local market.<br />

I think all of that is pretty magic. Cameras have came a very long way in the (almost) 30 years since I was given my very first camera!<br />

<br />
I'm not a huge fan of winter. I feel the cold easily and like to be warm and cosy inside, so it's probably a good thing I have an indoor job! There is no doubt that winter has arrived here in Christchurch. It started with a bang right on the 1st June and we've had plenty of frosty mornings since then. This morning was one of those days, but the frost appears to have melted by the time I got into town to take some photos. It was still very chilly though. Fortunately I have amassed a growing collection of winter coats, so at least it's a good excuse to give them an outing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/2295036337445092" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="850" data-original-width="850" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkPqtq2g3OFyO5i-xEfdSylFVHUCCzU6ytFLs1H9Ts9xuOMKuE9H15z9UwfoMsWPq5mASUIB81qgUajCMAwijEVQWAyMPdxISzdXEaEIwXHDYMkWPn0Rj2FQMIwkb6aw9PrTf0vysIeEql/s640/1-Week_Square.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One thing you can count on to brighten up a cold Christchurch winter is Encraftment. If you're looking for something to do to take your mind off the cold – or perhaps to stock up on some nice cosy winter gear, then you're in luck! Winter Encraftment is just over a week away. They have made a couple of changes this year, they've moved back in to town, and it's over two days. One thing that hasn't changed is the high calibre and variety of stalls – you will not be disappointed.<br />
<br />
I'll be there with my new <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/kereru-wall-decal" target="_blank">watercolour kereru decals</a> and I'm hoping to finish another new design to bring too. Hope to see you there!<br />

<a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/dusky-pink-dots-wall-decal" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="945" data-original-width="1260" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrvmb7e5eRr_fQ2BwQ5gldO9JqWHdte6vgVzp9vCVVUroy8jXFWIfBl7ZvySdzGcgfSajjG-GqF5p0OPP5VuBlcPvHuJ2ZAGI5eKsg7O6DCpf56N7wRT_6JoDsNYqGuTzrMlO586annUd-/s640/WM_Dusky-pink-dots_chair-shelf_cropped.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This week I'm going to tell you about falling out of love. Yes, that's right, there is something I don't love like I used to. When I started designing decals for StickyTiki I made some geometric designs. Dots, triangles, rectangle chalkboards. They were fun at the time, but they are just flat shapes of solid colour. There is no subtle variation of tone like in watercolour, no waiting for the unexpected to happen, and I knew pretty much exactly how the finished designs would look like when I started.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/mustard-yellow-triangles-wall-decal" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="945" data-original-width="1260" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZFoZhO3QZhIw-eiUvJywj6A-vGB1ALHaj2cx430JpvdezC-f4v8beGDNcDi2wI0kKBvILNF1sYFySqnTFAVqjIDUkTjiM1TUWUezyvWiiVvZXMUD-XAUyboV1NrQ9nIXCC0XF8OeshHjp/s640/MED_Mustard-yellow_triangles_cot.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Drawing vector shapes in illustrator and then choosing colours from swatch books just doesn't have the same appeal anymore. Instead I can get out my paints, choose the colours and then mix them together to get just the right one. Then I can experiment which different brush strokes to get the right look. The process is just not the same when creating geometric vector shapes, and so we must part and go our separate ways.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric/jungle-green-triangles-wall-decal" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="945" data-original-width="1260" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKgjUf98faEk4PYSuL8egimqw8F7JGnf5Snkfvu9a0p6Gan7I6LI-47hCIH3LqBpn6uQTH5g8_ZJhHBgSOfiQntUjddoWm_QopM7dt3oElRsf8gKnX3HNV_obY_Vf7mgpKuajRkLvP9MqK/s640/WM_Jungle-green-triangles_forest-hamish.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In the meantime, we do still have some of the <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/geometric" target="_blank">geometric shapes</a> of dots and triangles left, and some <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/chalkboard" target="_blank">black chalkboards</a>. These have been reduced to clear, so I can make more room for handpainted wall decals!<br />

I don't remember a time before that, because I was too young to remember anything. As a child I enjoyed making things. Empty weet-bix boxes were an endless source of inspiration, I made many creations of that cardboard, it was the perfect weight to create with. As time went by they started to print on the inside of the box which I wasn't too impressed with.<br />
<br />
My <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2010/01/best-crafter-ive-ever-met.html" target="_blank">mother</a> is very crafty, and when I was a child I learned how to knit, sew, spin and weave. She also taught me how to crochet, but I didn't pick that up so easily. As an adult I had to ask her to teach me again! My school's annual field day was the highlight of the year. When the schedule came out, I would go through it seeing what categories there were, and deciding what to make for each one. My classmates' enthusiasm for handcrafts didn't quite match mine, so it wasn't uncommon for me to be the sole entrant in a category! I also had a (very) little side hustle going on while I was at school, which you can read about <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2016/07/starting-small.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My prize haul from one year's field day. The two embroideries were made at school.</td></tr>

As I got older I focussed more on art, and studied it throughout high school. Due to attending a small country school I had to do 6th and 7th form art by correspondence which I wasn't well suited to. A month after finishing a painting you would get the feedback from your teacher in Wellington. You can't replace having a teacher behind you as you're working, giving you feedback you can implement straight away.<br />

Upon leaving school I studied graphic design and spent a few years working in the art department of a screen printing company. Around that time I decided to start making candles again, a hobby I'd started in high school. I made quite a few and wondered what I was going to do with them, so set up a stall at Craft World. This was cut short when I left to go to London for a year.<br />

After my return from London, I wanted to get in touch with my creative side again, so joined a local painting class. I learned lots of watercolour techniques during this time, and participated in several group exhibitions. I was also quite keen to get back into some craft again, so rekindled my <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/" target="_blank">candle business</a>, took up knitting again and properly learned to <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2009/08/twice-cute.html" target="_blank">crochet</a>. Conveniently there was a resurgence in craft, it was a lot cooler than it had been in my youth. I went to some <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/2009/06/craft-20-roundup-and-knitting-in-public.html" target="_blank">local markets</a>, joined <a href="https://felt.co.nz/shop/roseinthorns" target="_blank">Felt</a> and made some new friends!<br />

Five years ago when my son was a baby I wasn't sure what direction to go in next, and then along came <a href="https://blog.stickytiki.nz/2015/11/introducing.html" target="_blank">StickyTiki</a>! The first job I'd had at the screen printing company had some digital printing machines which I used to operate. One of them could print and cut, and was an earlier (and much lower quality) model of the one we use to print StickyTiki decals. I'd always quite fancied it, so couldn't turn down the chance to own a much better one! I was also thinking it would be a good chance use and grow my art skills.<br />
<br />
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br />
<br />
I had to dig quite deep into the archives for some of the photos to illustrate this post. My aunt gave me a camera when I was 8, which means I have a good photographic record of my childhood. It was a film camera with a little cartridge you put in that had the film in it. It was pretty foolproof!<br />

Obviously they go well on painted walls, but there are lots of other places you can put them. I'm hoping to take more photos of the decals in different places, to give you an idea about how they'll work for you. Some places I'm thinking of photographing our decals on are the door of the fridge, on a laptop and maybe even the car.<br />
<br />
So tell me where you put yours! If you don't have one yet, where where are you planning to put it? Just comment below, or even better send me a photo of your decal in it's special place! I love seeing where our decals end up. If you want to share it on social media, use the hashtag <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/mystickytiki/" target="_blank">#mystickytiki</a> so we can check out how good they are looking!<br />

The product we use was designed to be used for large scale wallcoverings, and that is something I've wanted to add for some time now. You hear lots of stories about the grim task of stripping old wallpaper when people are renovating their homes. How great would it be if you could just peel it off, as easily as a StickyTiki wall decal?<br />
<br />
With that in mind, and all the possibilities that brings with it, I needed some fabulous repeating patterns that I could use to print onto wallpaper. Because if you've got a product as special as StickyTiki, you need some pretty special designs, right?<br />
<br />
Luckily for me I know some very talented illustrators, one of whom had developed quite a penchant for designing patterns. <a href="https://www.katherinequinn.nz/patterns" target="_blank">Katherine Quinn</a> who created the artwork for a range of <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/katherine-quinn" target="_blank">decals for us</a> also has a great range of patterns. Last year I had the opportunity to create a trade booth for an insulation company, so I recommended using a wallpaper to give the stand more interest. This was a good chance to try out my idea, and it worked really well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwYsE5D_RtAWZCua1On3BsJCKPGO0V51D6lWDtIYlsFhkEC6o_X5ahOeJnto-ccrsIobj-4WAcAJQeYF-7kRIliqZm-k2pTtHoquIxBn_eu8oYcqMSh8z1D36psE6pE66L1zbbsmPij52N/s1600/wallpaper-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwYsE5D_RtAWZCua1On3BsJCKPGO0V51D6lWDtIYlsFhkEC6o_X5ahOeJnto-ccrsIobj-4WAcAJQeYF-7kRIliqZm-k2pTtHoquIxBn_eu8oYcqMSh8z1D36psE6pE66L1zbbsmPij52N/s640/wallpaper-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
The next step was to create a background to photoshop the wallpaper into. I photograph each and every one of my decals, but this isn't so practical for wallpaper! I wanted to avoid using stock imagery if I could, so I spoke to the lovely Kiri at Junk & Disorderly, and she arranged it so I could come in and photograph some of their gorgeous furniture against a blank wall, so I could use that for a background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next step will be to setup the mockups for the different designs, work out all the finer details and then launch them! Hopefully I will get that done over the next few months and then you will be able to buy your very own StickyTiki wallpaper.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Plastic bags – something the world does not need any more of!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
You'd think that with all this talk about using less plastic in our lives, there would be lots of great alternatives out there. In lots of cases there are of course (think how ubiquitous reusable coffee cups have become), but sometimes the simplest things are the most difficult to find. Recently I was coming close to the end of my supply of small, plastic prepaid courier satchels. The company I was using already had a larger size available in a nice sturdy cardboard envelope. This was great, as not only was it more environmentally friendly – it could be easily recycled, and was made from recycled paper – but it worked better for my decals as it was more sturdy.<br />
<br />
I had seen the smaller size in a cardboard envelope from another company, and thought that it wouldn't be difficult to find a suitable replacement. This turned out to be a very optimistic outlook. The current company didn't have any plans to add the size I required to the cardboard range. The other company wasn't even aware that they had made them, as they were no longer available. At this point, the notion of buying a prepaid cardboard satchel in this size was dashed.<br />
<br />
Another option that had been suggested to me was buying cardboard envelopes and printing my own courier labels. This also turned out to be easier said than done, as it involved buying a special printer and wasn't really aimed at smaller businesses like mine. Then I had another company recommended to me that could do everything I needed, and I could print the labels on my existing printer. So I was finally able to remove the last plastic packaging option I had for posting, and move entirely to cardboard! I am quite a fan of cardboard, so this made me very happy. Not only is it recyclable, it is such a versatile product.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJFFpcIIHifM4SOlYcHTBEghBnehG5lo1Qy0wrxwuziAdpuagI1Cn0XjCgkh5RiGaGSH-ovA-hPDxxoldvkf566OBP9jTkNjsv9Aj-_AuXd4CzLW36yBgvSnCRc0BmXCS-6RQAUDR1HM9x/s1600/postal_packaging.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJFFpcIIHifM4SOlYcHTBEghBnehG5lo1Qy0wrxwuziAdpuagI1Cn0XjCgkh5RiGaGSH-ovA-hPDxxoldvkf566OBP9jTkNjsv9Aj-_AuXd4CzLW36yBgvSnCRc0BmXCS-6RQAUDR1HM9x/s640/postal_packaging.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The new. entirely cardboard range of packing options for sending out your decals</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />Now I just need to find a biodegradable alternative to the plastic sleeves I use for the medium and large decals. I use biodegradable cellophane bags for the tiny and small decals, but they don't make them in the larger sizes as well. I am still looking, and rest assured when I do find a suitable alternative I will make the switch.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu5NLtVKEFlMe28LK2oGtReHijJsFLzfrxehVCl2kRz5ZIHWYsUX42I46fmqbBj5QgYaEM06Y59waXEpVH4sUHBkYQjGEO_35TNuZ-JCr73qZMygrhT5nHgta3UFxhOf9GA_PAOu7KqGmo/s1600/IMG_0033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu5NLtVKEFlMe28LK2oGtReHijJsFLzfrxehVCl2kRz5ZIHWYsUX42I46fmqbBj5QgYaEM06Y59waXEpVH4sUHBkYQjGEO_35TNuZ-JCr73qZMygrhT5nHgta3UFxhOf9GA_PAOu7KqGmo/s1600/IMG_0033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To begin with, the decals start out with an idea. Some of those ideas have been swirling around for a long time. I still have ideas from when I was planning to buy StickyTiki that haven't come to fruition yet! So it is very exciting each time I do get to sit down and start work on a new idea. </div>

Firstly I sketch out some roughs to get a feel for how the work might look. Usually this will start with some pencil sketches from reference images, and then some rough paintings to try out different techniques until I get the desired effect. In this case I practiced the letter forms with my brush pen before using watercolour and a brush.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I'm happy with that, I sketch the outline. If it's something geometric, I literally go old school and use my compass and other tech drawing equipment I used at school. I'd like to add that computers were around then, they just weren't quite as sophisticated as they are now. The internet was still a novelty, not a way of life!</div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then comes the fun bit where I get out the paint and create the finished painting. Often I'm happy with the first one, but sometimes I have to try again to get it to a stage that I'm happy with. If my high school art teacher is reading this, I have moved on from my perfectionist tendencies from fifth form. When I saw her at a recent school reunion, she wasn't convinced that was possible. It might be because she hadn't met my second art teacher, Maree from <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Art-Company-281738325184062/" target="_blank">Art and Company</a> who taught me to be more loose and go with the flow.</div>

The idea of thinking what to write each week was a bit daunting to start with, but then I remembered I used to write quite regularly on my other blog, <a href="http://www.roseinthorns.nz/" target="_blank">Rose in Thorns</a>, and Kim used to write on this blog very regularly in the early days. So I know it can be done!<br />

What will I write about? How about a little about me to begin with! (If you want to read more, check out the <a href="https://blog.stickytiki.nz/2015/11/introducing.html" target="_blank">introductory post</a> I wrote a couple of years ago.) I've always been creative which isn't that surprising, with a mother that is a very talented craftswoman, and my grandmothers were also quite handy with crafts and both enjoyed painting. As a girl I enjoyed drawing and painting and making creations out of cardboard boxes. The latter is a talent my son seems to have inherited! This led to a career as a graphic designer, and eventually to becoming the owner of StickyTiki.<br />

<br />
One of the reasons I purchased StickyTiki was that I wanted to incorporate more drawing and painting back into my life. After almost five years, I have to say that's still a lot easier said than done, but I am getting better at making time to create. I have started on a range of New Zealand birds in watercolour which has been really run to see a style evolve. I had no idea what they would look like when I started, and I still don't know what the next one is going to look like when I start it.<span id="goog_1352349976"></span><br />
<br />
So in the coming weeks I'll be posting some behind the scenes updates, interviews with the talented artists I collaborate with (here are some profiles I've already done on <a href="https://blog.stickytiki.nz/2015/12/drawer-full-of-giants.html" target="_blank">Drawer Full of Giants</a>, <a href="https://blog.stickytiki.nz/2015/12/angelique-monaghan.html" target="_blank">Angelique Monaghan</a> and <a href="https://blog.stickytiki.nz/2015/12/scribblelicious.html" target="_blank">Shireen Myers</a>), stockist profiles and updates on where you can find me.<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me, and I hope you'll come along for the ride!<br />

When her children were little, Kim Hands would paint large murals on their walls. As an artist, this came to her naturally. It got her wondering how people who weren't artists decorated their kids' rooms. She set about researching how she could make artwork that other people could put on their walls. This led to finding a material that could be printed, cut to shape and stuck to walls, which could also be removed and repositioned. She also found a printer that could print high quality artwork and cut individual shapes. Kim acquired both, and thus StickyTiki was born!<br />
<br />
Being the first business in New Zealand (and one of the first in the world) to create wall decals from this reusable fabric, Kim enjoyed worldwide success selling her bright, bold designs on <a href="https://www.etsy.com/nz/shop/Stickytiki" target="_blank">Etsy</a>. A strong New Zealand theme made her designs popular among locals and proud kiwis expats around the world.<br />

Four years ago Kim decided it was time for a change and sold the business to me. Since then I have <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations" target="_blank">collaborated</a> with several New Zealand artists and introduced some of my own designs. I am very proud to have continued the amazing business that Kim set up and to have reached to milestone of 10 years of creating unique, reusable artwork for your walls.<br />

Angelique Monaghan is a self taught artist who lives in the Kapiti Coast with her three children and dog.
She discovered a passion for art at a young age and started exhibiting from 17 years as part of a group show in a Christchurch Gallery. Her works range from emotive portraits and bold abstract figure studies to eerie contemporary surrealism, mingled in with a recent foray into a more nature themed series. She is also a fan of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who we happen to be quite familiar with here at StickyTiki!<br />
<br />
Angelique recently painted this amazing portrait of <a href="https://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/frida-kahlo-dot-wall-decal" target="_blank">Frida Kahlo</a>, so of course we thought this would make a great collaboration piece. The art dot is available in a range of sizes, so there will be one to fit your space. It would make a great gift for fans of the artist.<br />

Shireen Myers is the avid doodler behind <a href="https://www.facebook.com/scribbleliciousart" target="_blank">Scribblelicious</a> and our second artist collaboration. She has a range of prints, greeting cards and Christmas decorations which she sells at local markets. She is also stocked at <a href="http://payitforward.kiwi.nz/" target="_blank">Pay it Forward</a>, a Designer Co-op store in Christchurch, along with StickyTiki and other local designers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Shireen has created three designs for us, all with her trademark attention to detail. The <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/tui-dot-wall-decal" target="_blank">Tui dot</a> wall decal is is the first in the range and easy to get lost in. It is available in four sizes, so there is one to suit any spot in your house. The large ones look great above a mantelpiece, and the smaller ones would look lovely in a smaller space, or even on the front of your fridge. Wherever you choose, it will add a beautiful New Zealand touch to your home.</div>

Tania Hassounia, an illustrator, solopreneur and founder of <a href="http://www.drawerfullofgiants.com/" target="_blank">Drawer Full of Giants</a>, is the first illustrator we teamed up with as part of our artist collaboration project. Tania is always brimming with ideas and likes working with other creatives. Her illustrations are inspired by yesteryear and nature – thanks to a childhood of doodling on lazy summer days of kiwiana camping, along with her father’s avid interest in days gone by.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Vintage Correspondence Collection</h2>
Tania has designed three wall decal collections for StickyTiki, with the first being inspired by the detailing of everyday items from 19th century England. This collection includes a <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/vintage-correspondence-mini-mural" target="_blank">Vintage Correspondence Mini Mural</a> with all of the items, and two smaller StickyTiny sized sets, themed around a <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/vintage-postcard-stickytiny" target="_blank">Vintage Postcard</a> and <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/vintage-timepieces-stickytiny" target="_blank">Vintage Timepieces</a>. They would look great in that little spot where you might journal or write letters, a little touch to add some vintage charm.<br />

<h2>
Historic Sailing Ships</h2>
The next range is inspired by historic coins and stamps while meandering around a maritime museum one stormy day. The <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/historic-sailing-ships-mini-mural" target="_blank">Historic Sailing Ships Mini Mural wall decal</a> would be perfect for the seafaring child wanting adventure on the high seas. There are also two smaller StickyTiny sets, <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/european-sailing-ships-wall-decal-stickytiny" target="_blank">European Sailing Ships</a> and <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/viking-sailing-ships-wall-decal-stickytiny" target="_blank">Viking Sailing Ships</a>. They would look good adorning a child's bedroom, or perhaps on the bathroom walls to add a nautical touch.<br />

<h2>
1950s inspired Dress up Dolls</h2>
<div>
Remember the paper dress up dolls from your childhood? Tania has designed a version made from our wall decal fabric, which can be put on the wall and reused over and over again. Abby comes with four outfits; a <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/sailor-abby-dress-up-doll-wall-decal" target="_blank">Sailor outfit</a>, <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/abbys-maori-costume-dress-up-doll-wall-decal" target="_blank">traditional Maori costume</a>, <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/bedtime-abby-dress-up-doll-wall-decal" target="_blank">Bedtime outfit</a> and <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/party-dress-abby-dress-up-doll-wall-decal" target="_blank">Party Dress</a>. Abby is attired in a pretty underwear set, and is based on a typical eight year old girl. The doll come in different configurations; <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/artist-collaborations/drawer-full-of-giants/dress-up-doll-with-four-outfits-wall-decal" target="_blank">doll and all outfits</a>, doll with one outfit as well as extra outfits, so you can start with the set, or add to it as you go.</div>

<br />
Chalkboard wall decals are a great addition to your home, even if you don't have children. Here are 12 reasons why.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
1. Easy to apply</h3>
All you need to do is peel the decal off the backing paper and stick it to the wall. Ensure the surface is clean first by wiping it down with a cloth (wait for it to dry if you use a damp cloth). Then just stick the decal to the wall and smooth it down with your hand. No messing about with paint and waiting for it to dry, and if you change your mind you can easily move it somewhere else.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEdKbrv5e_WRH429g2RKWoGt8384_W6rbD1QSs6AxaBBUpjAH0lAp686k6fon5TxlYZpdOgfZ6AVNzb4dyeAVjDjt_uqXWCDbeB92O7x3skGLDPkIyjZHuGd4Z0eY2sHLEliZCRZe0hOav/s1600/chalkboard_round_triangles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEdKbrv5e_WRH429g2RKWoGt8384_W6rbD1QSs6AxaBBUpjAH0lAp686k6fon5TxlYZpdOgfZ6AVNzb4dyeAVjDjt_uqXWCDbeB92O7x3skGLDPkIyjZHuGd4Z0eY2sHLEliZCRZe0hOav/s640/chalkboard_round_triangles.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
2. Child friendly</h3>
Our chalkboard decals are designed for use with real chalk, so are great for children to use – if they accidentally write on the wall with chalk it can be easily wiped off. Put it at a level they can easily reach, give them some chalk and a duster and watch their inner artist come out. My two year old son loves drawing with the chalk, dusting it off and starting again!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnEjofSK9oZZdccsmuOpzsL_HdGBJ304H6M3bynJgkRHGM9jLBNr34lojsUM37fzWcCumyQUVNqvzo4UzIDsvzhWvNVn4ZGq8wtO0m7IEdM-2saAsfk_y_wQA7ZtzQ3yQujuE1rN7uWPy6/s1600/med-dot-chalkboard_hamish-chalk-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnEjofSK9oZZdccsmuOpzsL_HdGBJ304H6M3bynJgkRHGM9jLBNr34lojsUM37fzWcCumyQUVNqvzo4UzIDsvzhWvNVn4ZGq8wtO0m7IEdM-2saAsfk_y_wQA7ZtzQ3yQujuE1rN7uWPy6/s640/med-dot-chalkboard_hamish-chalk-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
3. Teach children letters and numbers</h3>
When your children get to school and want to practice their writing their letters and numbers, a chalkboard decal works well as you can put it anywhere. It also means they can write them over and over again until they get it just right!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9geNuaPdXzwfzTBtwDC4vdbOQm3X5sJqcfcmuOHy3365Ce9CEm9eRce6Y0g2Mi_eJhPDwgZatSX_FRfY5r-Oh5XljXf1HgRUt6JIOj3s6Ehks3X2O-3GGcgpJ65KCeU9mrNhyphenhyphenPlDh60WG/s1600/MM-chalkboard-alphabet-numbers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9geNuaPdXzwfzTBtwDC4vdbOQm3X5sJqcfcmuOHy3365Ce9CEm9eRce6Y0g2Mi_eJhPDwgZatSX_FRfY5r-Oh5XljXf1HgRUt6JIOj3s6Ehks3X2O-3GGcgpJ65KCeU9mrNhyphenhyphenPlDh60WG/s640/MM-chalkboard-alphabet-numbers.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
4. Shopping list</h3>
Put up a chalkboard decal near the fridge or pantry in the kitchen, and write on it as things run out, or if you notice they are running low. I'm good at noticing something is getting low and forgetting to add it to the shopping list when I write it. It's much easier to write it down when you remember if you have a conveniently located chalkboard and some chalk handy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9KVOq4E6r-YOOQkgSbksdQzRjne7ZpUVRc1J8FlYj7HtTrv0vsMDAmzC0IQs7E86Wk4wUTsnBY9WfYMs6OeFzrYghZtch9__uarCQoAzYLhT7-bhwhyphenhyphenlZ5dUxi_kIW00NJ5x3rjOHEkU5/s1600/MM-chalkboard-shopping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9KVOq4E6r-YOOQkgSbksdQzRjne7ZpUVRc1J8FlYj7HtTrv0vsMDAmzC0IQs7E86Wk4wUTsnBY9WfYMs6OeFzrYghZtch9__uarCQoAzYLhT7-bhwhyphenhyphenlZ5dUxi_kIW00NJ5x3rjOHEkU5/s640/MM-chalkboard-shopping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
5. Inspirational quote</h3>
If you have a favourite saying, mantra or quote, write it on a chalkboard decal that is in a special spot to remind you whenever you see it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg8t1uWq2WuNpt3h_kj4zlEEjWOLElRFOX4hQwCbJP32LcyEC00yfBBlVtVmiRkmlIxvEwAEIBS856Sc2f3C6NSkYVwJEUI9DYdHk26fAxfROkqQq4zVbsoH0A4ajMXvOEg0GA_XDUyWqa/s1600/einstein-quote.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg8t1uWq2WuNpt3h_kj4zlEEjWOLElRFOX4hQwCbJP32LcyEC00yfBBlVtVmiRkmlIxvEwAEIBS856Sc2f3C6NSkYVwJEUI9DYdHk26fAxfROkqQq4zVbsoH0A4ajMXvOEg0GA_XDUyWqa/s640/einstein-quote.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
6. Release your inner artist</h3>
The great thing about chalk is that is super easy to erase, so you can go crazy practicing your drawing skills. If you don't like the result you can just dust it off and start again!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy6vV2I6poJgMyFbsWrHOYvmibg-DI64PGB8CLL1KDHzp4lvtV8nAf_ZdSiV-6AYyr_8bX1jNS8aZLHEjITofQ9hocPJz3m1LgJNccjPAusdB-SD3ohbCzZiPbpKBHa_7pxKnk5j2TVXTM/s1600/small-dot-chalkboard_heart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy6vV2I6poJgMyFbsWrHOYvmibg-DI64PGB8CLL1KDHzp4lvtV8nAf_ZdSiV-6AYyr_8bX1jNS8aZLHEjITofQ9hocPJz3m1LgJNccjPAusdB-SD3ohbCzZiPbpKBHa_7pxKnk5j2TVXTM/s640/small-dot-chalkboard_heart.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizV1mxzKFbqCAiPW9GZLfjjyhcmAhbGBT-b2U9ERsvQ8hsvQqSBwwE7ZIcZH8EpyP9xidYvIur8LZWMtDf1htxtAbDPh7SZbUhh3NnTStA0OZoRF6Qz7UzSmt6eLsloEqo5sR2TUEF3BhN/s1600/large-chalkboard_landscape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizV1mxzKFbqCAiPW9GZLfjjyhcmAhbGBT-b2U9ERsvQ8hsvQqSBwwE7ZIcZH8EpyP9xidYvIur8LZWMtDf1htxtAbDPh7SZbUhh3NnTStA0OZoRF6Qz7UzSmt6eLsloEqo5sR2TUEF3BhN/s640/large-chalkboard_landscape.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
7. Weekly schedule</h3>
If you have a busy schedule or one that keeps changing, a chalkboard decal is a great way to keep track of everything that's going on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigprSyBMghPq6zxGSv-dAwF3ExImBi8VcsZyMymsTH0lFxsXaTVrHP8lqjoSXm0vplb16a6UUNuaNlZUvLL0aN9DYE3_tSEEqMKVQKrA2nwEi66SpSnO5z2VtGRWITt7d9kpTobOXmV-TM/s1600/large-chalkboard_weekday_new.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigprSyBMghPq6zxGSv-dAwF3ExImBi8VcsZyMymsTH0lFxsXaTVrHP8lqjoSXm0vplb16a6UUNuaNlZUvLL0aN9DYE3_tSEEqMKVQKrA2nwEi66SpSnO5z2VtGRWITt7d9kpTobOXmV-TM/s640/large-chalkboard_weekday_new.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
8. Reminders</h3>
Do you forget to put the bins out? Or can't remember if it's rubbish or recycling week? Put your chalkboard decal somewhere you'll see it, and write a reminder of whatever it is you keep forgetting.<br />
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
9. Appointments</h3>
A great way to remember appointments, just write them on a chalkboard decal that's in a prominent place – perhaps the kitchen so you don't forget. Also a great way of reminding other family members when you'll be out.<br />
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
10. Keep track of your to do list</h3>
Chalkboard decals are a great way to keep on top of that never ending to do list. Once you've completed something, you can either dust it off, or just cross it out if you like the satisfaction of a completed to do list!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Q1253nLhL0pAzfXbWc2n0S7ZOwBQvvj2ALo-SlAeD2MaqhmqB44eqFzBw9CMH2MuX3ffTJytoamcsynNelps02FNNYvbMMUYH0wqqRggh8Q7bCLjRmU5Z3M0lheRcbB7e_nxOjiH_82A/s1600/MM-chalkboard-alphabet-to-do.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Q1253nLhL0pAzfXbWc2n0S7ZOwBQvvj2ALo-SlAeD2MaqhmqB44eqFzBw9CMH2MuX3ffTJytoamcsynNelps02FNNYvbMMUYH0wqqRggh8Q7bCLjRmU5Z3M0lheRcbB7e_nxOjiH_82A/s640/MM-chalkboard-alphabet-to-do.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
11. Easy to remove</h3>
<div>
To take down a StickyTiki chalkboard decal, or move it to another spot, all you have to do is peel it off. It really is that easy! If you're not moving it to another spot right away, just put it on the backing sheet, place it back in the sleeve or roll it up and put it away in the box. This will help keep it clean and dust free.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXumtHYs-N5bwpgStF2IeJfcOd4Q9q3B3G7OopVH55uUCZWIJa-QvoQ9MK7GQUrc_PA3cA2xR7sxa0lwjNVoX8UeaG3Htqyni2o2dBF30Ccdkz0zSW-W7KSjUAVoshfajupavWcIli92p5/s1600/med-dot-chalkboard_raindrops-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXumtHYs-N5bwpgStF2IeJfcOd4Q9q3B3G7OopVH55uUCZWIJa-QvoQ9MK7GQUrc_PA3cA2xR7sxa0lwjNVoX8UeaG3Htqyni2o2dBF30Ccdkz0zSW-W7KSjUAVoshfajupavWcIli92p5/s640/med-dot-chalkboard_raindrops-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
12. Great for rentals</h3>
<div>
See point 1 and point 11 – easy to put up and easy to remove. You don't need to paint the walls to have a chalkboard effect, and you don't need to worry about damaging the walls when you remove it. You can even take it with you to your next house!<br />
<br />
StickyTiki has a range of <a href="http://www.stickytiki.nz/shop/chalkboard" target="_blank">chalkboard decals</a> in different sizes – there is sure to be one just right for your house.</div>

<br />
Hi, I'm Rose and I've been at the helm of StickyTiki for over a near now. After all this time perhaps I should introduce myself! I live in Christchurch with my husband and our two year old son. We live in a 1950s brick house in the suburbs with our dog and three chooks.<br />
<br />
I've always enjoyed art and craft, and tried my hand at many creative pursuits in my youth. My Mum is very crafty, and taught me all the essentials like sewing, knitting, spinning and weaving. In latter years she picked up bobbin lace which she has become very proficient at. Both of my grandmothers enjoyed painting along with other crafty pursuits, and encouraged my interest in art.<br />
<br />
I chose graphic design as a career option as it fitted in well with my interest in drawing and art. Since then I have worked in various jobs, from pre-press for screenprinting to publishing and advertising. I enjoyed my work, but I wanted to get back to my creative roots and do something more hands on. I picked up an earlier hobby of candlemaking and began learning how to turn craft into a business.<br />
<br />
After several years of running my business <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.co.nz/" target="_blank">Rose in Thorns</a> – making candles and doing freelance graphic design, I still felt I needed something else. When the opportunity arose to purchase StickyTiki, I jumped at the chance. My first job had involved using a similar, but much older printer, and I liked the idea of owning one myself. With having a young son, making decals for children's room was a good fit, along with getting back into painting and drawing to create new designs. I'm still working on that, but as they say, good things take time!<br />
<br />
One thing I am passionate about is collaborating with other designers. This means I can offer a wider range of designs, and support local designers as well. Throughout the years working in design and participating in local craft markets, I have met many talented people. I am currently working with three designers and artists, and have more lined up. I have even collaborated with my candle business, designing <a href="https://www.roseinthorns.nz/categories/glass-candles/scented-soy-decal-votive-candle" target="_blank">decals for soy votive candles</a> to create a new range!<br />
<br />
I've got lots of ideas for the future, I just have to fit them in around running two businesses and raising my son. So that should keep me out of trouble for a while! In the meantime, here are some pics of previous work I've done.<br />
